Program & Staffing
· Expand and maintain placePlaceNameStoneham PlaceTypeSchool website
· Establish a summary plan outlining the positions needed to be re-instated, in priority order, along with the estimated cost and benefit/need statement. (MS Teams, MS Technology/Computer, Elementary Reading Specialists, Aides for large elementary classes)
· Discuss Middle School reorganization – close portion of MS, leave 6th grade at elementary level.
· Provide certified library/media specialists and technology instructors in all schools.
· Provide full instruction in fine arts and physical education at all levels.
· Continue to support one full-time nurse per school
· Maintain and expand preventative health, safety and conflict resolution programs in all grades.
· Investigate mandatory community service requirement for high school graduation for implementation 2007-2008 school year.
· Provide adequate clerical help in Business Office and Facilities Department
· Restructure Professional Development days to offer/include full day courses
· Provide MCAS intervention/remediation programs and written feedback to parents. Maintain a multifaceted student assessment program.
· Maintain and upgrade after school programs (childcare and extracurricular)
· Continue full day kindergarten program in each elementary school.
· Establish summer program for students in academic need at all levels.
· Sponsor parent education programs around curriculum and learning issues. (including emphasis on preschool parent population – added by one member)
· Urge PlaceTypeHigh School community service courses and groups to support unmet needs at middle and elementary schools.
· Implement community/parent volunteer clearinghouse for District and investigate how other communities have done this.
· Continue to emphasize walking and car pooling to school, especially safe walking routes
· Maintain and expand integrated Preschool Program
· Re-establish Alumni Association as community pride and revenue producing initiative
· Staff each elementary school with at least one certified reading specialist.
· Promote a unified, integrated and articulated curriculum at all schools and levels.
· Establish Gifted and Talented Program
· Offer a local GED course for interested citizens
Finance
· Continue to promote effective communication among Finance Board, Board of Selectmen, and others in Town government – including continued participation in Town Summit Meetings.
· Maintain public school credibility with non-school age parents and other residents. Investigate newsletters or other means for regular updates to community on variety of subjects, from curriculum to budget.
· Lobby for state funds to reimburse Sped Transportation and increased Circuit Breaker funds in addition to Chapter 70 reform. Support efforts of State Relationship Committee to increase funding for placeCityStoneham.
· Explore feasibility of partnering with other districts in discrete areas to maximize cost savings: Professional Development, joint purchasing, Sped transportation, substitute teachers, summer school/MCAS academy.
· Expand the Adopt-A-School program, continue school/business partnerships
· Continue to look for alternative funding sources.
· Review recurring budget driven items outside the context of simply cost cutting:
· fundraising – put ED fund donation requests in water bills
· Substitute teacher policy – reduce costs by keeping in-house list
· Discuss privatizing custodial and cafeteria services
· Promote parental and citizen participation at budget meetings throughout the year
· Maintain very close alliances with all School Councils and PTO’s.
· Explore other grant writing options
Facilities
Prioritize and obtain funding for Middle School and High School capital needs.
Develop a plan for effective grounds maintenance.
Provide/restore adequate maintenance staff inside and outside of buildings.
Conduct an energy audit at all schools
Practice crisis plans in each building with staff and students.
Promote periodic internal safety reviews at each building.
Secure funds for all needed security systems throughout the system.
Continue to review and maintain records for the IPM for each school and educate new custodians, cafeteria and staff.
Continue to promote the implementation of the Adopt-A-School-Front Program. (“Continue to” added by one member)
Do an annual review of school leasing program.
Provide school system with adequate support for technology hardware and network maintenance.
Pursue addition of field house to placePlaceNameStoneham PlaceTypeHigh School campus for school and community use.
Secure HVAC mechanic or contracted service.
